A partnership between the The
training is designed for individuals and groups who are interested in psychiatric rehabilitation and in starting
clubhouses that are not currently affiliated with an established
clubhouse. It
provides detailed procedures
on how to start a clubhouse in
one’s own community and an Action Plan
tailored to specific
community
needs. The
orientation is meant to be an overview of, and not training
in clubhouse operations. |

| 1 | Clubhouse Philosophy and International Standards | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The
history of the model and its values and principles will be covered. The
International Clubhouse Standards
(includes seven sections) are consensus
principles from clubhouse worldwide. The role and function of the |

| 2 | Starting a Clubhouse Program | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Organizational basics such as finding a suitable building, establishing a budget, educating the community, management and supervising of the program, staff development and supervisory roles are covered. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 3 | Work-Ordered Day Experience | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| As clubhouse is best learned from hands-on experience, it is important that you participate in scheduled Work-Ordered Day (WOD) meetings and work activities to see how work becomes a restorative tool for self-esteem, confidence and relationship building. Phoenix Clubhouse has four units (Administrative Unit, Clerical Unit, Environmental Protection and Tuck Shop Unit, and Food Services Unit). Having a strong, vibrant WOD provides the structure and success for all other clubhouse activities. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 4 | Employment Program | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Phoenix Clubhouse has a three tiered Employment Programs that include Transitional, Supported and Independent Employment. Trainees will learn about all three of these types of employment and have an opportunity to meet with an employer and observe a TE placement. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 5 | Functions of the Clubhouse | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| A clubhouse serves its members through an array of services. Trainees will learn about evening/weekend programming, housing and transportation supports, and community support services to access pharmacological, medical, and substance abuse services. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 6 | Fundraising | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Information and contacts for obtaining available funds, both governmental and community based are presented. Funding and grant writing specific to clubhouse is explored. Also, the best to utilize the skills of management, staff and members in fundraising is discussed. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 8 | Action Plan | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Each participating group will work closely with the Phoenix Clubhouse to develop detailed Action Plan outlining steps to develop a clubhouse in its community. Follow up contact will also be provided by Phoenix Clubhouse to offer guidance and direction as the group progresses with its Action Plan. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 3. Accommodation | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Transportation
fee, personal expenses, personal insurance and payment for breakfast;
lunch and dinner (The Phoenix Clubhouse will provide breakfast and lunch
cost about HK$5 and HK$10 respectively). |

| 3 | Selecting people for Orientation | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Please consider his/her own experiences and his/her respective position in his/her institution so as to accomplish the goal in the orientation. Chairperson in the clubhouse working group is recommended. If the working group is not yet established, please choose the most influential person (any person recovering from mental illness or other individual) as the first participant, and choose the most influential executive in the institution as the second participant. |
